ABOUT
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a mixed media and abstract painter and my work explores the textures, impressions, and quiet moments of everyday life. Rooted in personal experience, my practice draws from the environments around us—worn surfaces, fleeting interactions, feelings that linger longer than expected. I work slowly, building and removing layers, responding intuitively to what appears on the surface.
The paintings often feature recurring lines, symbols, and contrasting materials—weathered textures alongside vivid bursts of colour. These combinations serve as a visual language: one that hints at something familiar, but never settles into a single interpretation.
Using collage, texture, and a process of layering and revealing, I treat painting as both a therapeutic act and a sometimes-frustrating conversation. The result is work that I hope feels lived-in and surprising, inviting viewers to lean in and look a little closer.
For me, making is a form of reflection—a way of processing the world while allowing room for mystery. Each piece offers an echo of experience, but stands as its own moment of intrigue.
BIOGRAPHY
With a background in embroidery, Kirsty's practice is rooted in a strong sense of materiality and layered detail, blending stitch-like, mark making processes with expressive paint.
Kirsty was born and lives in Greater Manchester, close to the Peak District. Her canal side studio is based in a local mill and provides an endless source of inspiration for her.
Creativity has been a constant thread throughout Kirsty’s life. Alongside a 20-year career in education as a teacher and SENDCo, she continually found ways to nurture creativity in others while developing her own artistic voice.

Experience Unfolded
I’ve spent years honing my artistic style, experimenting with textures and colors that tell stories on canvas.
